Eat for a Healthy Heart

February 24, 2021

Eat for a Healthy Heart
The month of February is all about LOVE. What better way to show someone that you love them then to cook heart healthy food and/or eat heart healthy foods yourself. Getting and staying healthy is most definitely a form of love.
There is such a great list of foods that your heart longs for. Living here in the Panhandle opens us up to the best foods for ourselves. Often we can even grow some of them in our yards. Here is just a short list to get you started. *Salmon, *Flaxseed, *Oatmeal, *Black or Kidney Beans, *Almonds, *Walnuts, *Red Wine, *Tuna, *Brown Rice, *Blue berries, *Carrots, *Spinach, *Broccoli, *Sweet potatoes, *Red Bell Peppers, *Asparagus, *Oranges, *Summer Tomatoes, *Acorn Squash, *Cantaloupe, *Papaya, *Dark Chocolate, *Tea.
Yum!! What a list. Think of all the wonderful meals to be made with those foods. There are a few things to keep in mind. You will want to keep the portion sizes in check, pick a lean protein to add with this if you wish, exchange some of the sodium for herbs and seasoning, and be selective when choosing what fat you will add to your meal. Unsaturated fats are a good choice to round off this plate.
I think I just may expand my garden this year. There is not too many things in this world better then food you grow then cook yourself or even better just stand in the garden and eat just after it is picked.
With temperatures dropping good heart healthy foods will not only feed your heart they will feed your soul. How does this sound Grilled Salmon resting on a bed of brown rice, acorn squash red pepper soup garnished with walnuts tea to drink for dessert oranges covered in dark chocolate with a glass of red wine.
